Basic Phase 1 style surveying was conducted of as many caves as possible in order to create an inventory. In total 183 caves were surveyed to this level and basic information such as cave dimensions and position were recorded. In addition, 11 sites were surveyed according to Phase 2 standards. The Phase 2 methods followed the MNCR protocol and included more detailed descriptions and sketches of the caves. In addition species lists for the biotopes present along with semi-quantitative abundance data was recorded. The data gathered was later analysed to give information such as cave ratios (length:width). The caves were also grouped by type (i.e. cave, arch and tunnel) and level at the shore.
