The assessment methodology had three stages: • Collection of data - navigation survey; • Analysis of navigation - navigation assessment; and • Assessment of navigation risk (including hazard identification meeting) – Navigation Risk Assessment (NRA). 8.2.35 The vessel traffic surveys collected data to allow assessment of the following: • Location of the demonstration project site relative to areas used by any type of marine craft; • Numbers, types and sizes of vessels presently using such areas, including course, name, International Maritime Organisation (IMO) classification and nationality where possible; • Non-transit uses of the areas, e.g. fishing (including gear type), day cruising of leisure craft, racing, dredging etc.; • Whether these areas contain transit routes used by coastal or deep-draught vessel on passage; and • Alignment and proximity of the demonstration project site relative to adjacent shipping lanes.
