A total of nine different marine mammal observers worked on rotation during the nine-week construction period. All observers had completed a JNCC approved training course for UK waters and were present during all daylight hours. From 25th June to 14th July 2013 observers were present from 7 am to 7 pm covering individual shifts of around 6 hours. These shifts changed to 7 am to 9 pm (8 hour shifts) on 15th July 2013 to match the shift in installation operations to 24-hour working. During shift changes a cross over period of 15 minutes, whereby two MMOs were present, was used to ensure that no mammals were missed. Observers were on site approximately 15 minutes before their individual shifts to set-up equipment and ensure that watches started promptly.
