The application for a Marine License was made in order for clearance and disposal of unexploded ordnance (UXO) to be undertaken within the Blyth Offshore Demonstrator project leased area. Work is planned to start in September 2016 and potentially continue through to completion of construction planned for October 2017. It is envisaged that the majority of the work will be undertaken in September and October 2016. Following submission of the application on 21/4/16, the MMO requested further information on the 6/5/16 relating to potential impacts on a number of designated sites and further assessment under the Water Framework Directive. The MMO stated that the Marine Licence application could not be progressed further without the submission of this additional information. Therefore BODL have supplied a preliminary response to these queries in order to enable the application documents to be circulated to statutory consultees for comment. BODL also note that other recent offshore wind applications for UXO clearance licences have not included this level of requested information at the initial application stage and therefore considers it unusual for the MMO to place the application on hold. As such it is expected that additional consultation queries may arise from statutory consultees once the ML application has been accepted.
