The explosive sound source model makes use of semi-empirical equations that are based on numerous field measurements, and is used to characterise the sound generated from underwater explosives in terms of peak pressure levels, sound exposure levels, and signal frequency content. The output of the explosive source model is used as an input to the propagation model, which allows for received noise levels in the marine environment to be estimated. The propagation model implements well established and validated algorithms that are extensively used in the acoustic community.
