Birds were recorded to species where practicable but were identified as accurately as possible (e.g. ‘tern sp.’) when birds were distant or in poor light. Any cetaceans or seals observed during the surveys were also recorded. All surveyors were JNCC European Seabirds at Sea (ESAS) trained and accredited and at least one on each survey was a qualified marine mammal observer (MMO). All surveyors were experienced ornithologists and had participated in several equivalent survey programmes at WoDS and other offshore wind farms.
