It examines the concentrations of selected contaminants in estuarine and marine sediments in the vicinity of the wind farm. These data are important as they give a good indication whether there are likely to be any issues relating to the dispersion of contaminants from sediments during activities such as piling for the monopile structures and trenching for the cables. This data set forms a useful baseline against which to monitor any changes during construction and operation of the wind farm. It is recommended that future data should also include aluminium and LOI analyses, and that new data are plotted with this existing data to show if there are trends towards elevated (or reduced) concentrations of contaminants. Figure 1 (which is missing from this report) can be found as a separate report within this 'Contaminants in marine sediments at the site of Gunfleet Sands Offshore Wind Farm' project. The grab and sampling equipment were washed prior to re-sampling. For each sample collected or attempted a record of the site number, sample number, date, time, water depth, co-ordinates, sediment depth and sediment type was taken together with relevant comments and observations. The sub-samples for particle size analysis and chemical determinands were sampled directly from the grab using appropriate sampling tools pre-rinsed in acetone and stored in labelled plastic and glass containers. With the exception of the particle size analysis samples, which were kept cool and in the dark, they were stored frozen prior to delivery for analysis.
