It is important that environmental sampling (video/camera surveys and seabed sediment sampling) covers the broad depth and sediment categories encountered in a region. This is because biological communities are likely to differ between areas with different sediment composition and water depth. Due to shallower water depths allowing light to penetrate to the seabed, coverage by algal species is likely to be highest in the inshore areas.
