The route runs from a proposed demonstration site adjacent to the existing Gunfleet Sand I and 2 operational wind farms to a landfall on the Clacton shoreline. ln the first instance the data will inform the environmental assessment of the export cable, reported via an Addendum to an Environmental Statement for the Demonstration Project. A geophysical and environmental survey has been completed along two preferred cable routes offshore. The geophysical and environmental survey was procured by DONG Energy and was completed by a 3rd Party. A shortfall in this data had been identified and the objective of the present survey is to infill this shortfall. To meet the objective a full detailed Geophysical and Environmental survey was carried out across the Clacton-on-Sea site. A beach reconnaissance and a topographic survey were carried out on the 27th and 30th of September during low water springs, to identify any navigational hazards for the survey vessel and as a quality control of the vertical levels acquired with the Multi-Beam Echo-Sounder (MBES). 2.3 Towed and vessel mounted geophysical and environmental survey instruments included : Side scan sonar; Surface tow boomer; Magnetometer; Multi-Beam Echosounder (MBES); and Drop Down Video system (DDV). 2.4 No grab samples for physio-chemical and biological analysis were undertaken, as it was deemed that there is sufficient data coverage of the biotopes present in the nearshore area, as identified during historical biotope mapping of the area (RPS, 2008) and from samples taken in the June/July 2011 survey for the proposed GFS 3 export cable corridor.
