Any invasive non-native species (INNS) were also to be recorded, as well as data on the sediment composition and general topographic features to fill evidence gaps. These data were collected from a Seabed Survey License. A Seabed Survey Licence enables applicants to undertake a range of small scale, temporary activities offshore, which physically interact with the seabed. As they are smaller individual surveys, not all of the deliverables comply with the MEDIN Guidelines required for other data on the Marine Data Exchange. The locations are provisionally set as Skipsea, Withernsea (outside of the Crown Estate jurisdiction) and Easington. Alternative locations at Barmston (for Skipsea) and Mappleton (for Easington) have also been submitted with this application. Samples will be collected using a hand-held 11.5cm diameter corer (0.01m2) to a depth of 15cm. Two transects will be used at each location to take four samples at each of the lower, mid and upper shore stations. This will result in a total of 72 core samples across all three survey sites (48 on Crown Estate foreshore). Samples will be collected for off-site analysis of benthic faunal ID and particle size analysis. This information will be used to improve our knowledge of the Holderness coastline and the Marine Conservation Zone, in partnership with Natural England. The research is expected to produce a comprehensive dataset of benthic fauna present within the sediment and of particle composition. Once complete, the final report will be made publically available and used to inform management of the coastline.
