Tip resistance, sleeve friction, pore water pressure (single filter located just behind the cone tip) and inclination of the cone were recorded during each test. The GEO cone penetration velocity was 20 mm/sec with a hydraulic control system maintaining penetration rates. The test data (qc, fs and u) and tool inclination were recorded every second. The tests were terminated in accordance with one of the following stop criteria: 1. Maximum penetration depth (40 m) 2. Total penetration resistance ? 200 kN (maximum thrust capacity) 3. Sleeve friction ? 0.8 MPa 4. Tip resistance ? 80 MPa 5. Gradual increase of cone inclination to maximum = 10? 6. Sudden increase of inclination more than 3?, combined with sudden high cone resistance and/or sleeve friction. 7. Maximum risk for testing equipment.
