The biological component of this survey included both a habitat and benthic sampling programme, including the acquisition, analysis and interpretation of benthic sample data. Field operations were undertaken by EGSi in September and October 2010, assisted by Benthic Solutions Limited, who subsequently carried out the analysis and reporting on behalf of EGSi. Field samples were acquired using a Hamon grab sampler with additional ground truthing using seabed photography and video via a drop down camera technique. Origin: EMU Ltd series The Lynn and Inner Dowsing Offshore Wind Farms have been fully operational since March 2009. The installation of offshore foundations was completed in 2007 with export cable routes completed in summer 2008. Pre-construction baseline surveys of the wind farm recorded aggregations of Sabellaria spinulosa within the survey area (Sotheran et al., 2005). More recent surveys in the region undertaken by the Eastern Sea Fisheries Joint Committee (ESFJC, 2008) also recorded Sabellaria sp. aggregations and also recorded areas of mussel beds (Mytilus edulis). Both Sabellaria sp. and Mytilus sp. are known to form biogenic reefs which are listed as Annex I habitats under the EC Habitats Directive and the UK Biodiversity Action Plan. Post-construction hydrographic surveys conducted by EMU in June and July 2009 recorded S. spinulosa aggregations throughout the site and identified four areas of potential S. spinulosa reef.
