These surveys consisted of: (i) Observations of seabird numbers and behaviour in the Sound, (ii) Observation of cetacean numbers and behaviour in the Sound, (iii) A walk-through survey around the onshore site of a proposed equipment container. The environmental survey work was carried out by Eddie Maguire, Warden at Machrihanish Seabird Observatory. Survey methodology and assistance was prepared and supplied by Nigel Harding of Craigton Ecological Services, via Xodus Group1. At the end of each week the observer will email their survey results to Nigel Harding, who will perform QA checks on the data, and add them to the database. Subsequent analyses will include the following: Generation of monthly distribution maps of sightings for each species; Provision of estimates of the number of animals recorded within given distances (e.g. 100m, 500m, 1000m) of the proposed deployment site; and Provision of tables summarising the proportion of time animals spend performing particular key behaviours within the study area.
