Fugro EMU Limited (Fugro EMU) was commissioned to complete the benthic survey. This included seabed video surveillance, sediment sampling and laboratory analyses for macrofaunal content, particle size distribution and determination of sediment contaminants. The results of the sampling and analyses and the subsequent benthic community interpretation are presented in this report. Sampling methods followed Fugro EMU’s in-house Method Statements 36 and 42 (Fugro EMU, 2011, 2012) and were in accordance with Cefas Guidelines (Cefas, 2004, Ware and Kenny, 2011). A 0.1 m2 mini Hamon grab sampler collected 58 single replicate quantitative sediment samples. Samples were sieved over a 1 mm mesh sieve. These were analysed at Fugro EMU's NMBAQC accredited laboratory for macrofauna and sediment particle size distribution in order to produce a description of the benthic communities. The 58 sites were sampled by seabed digital video and stills photography. Ten sites were sampled using a 0.1 m2 Day grab and analysed for sediment chemistry by the Cefas UKAS accredited chemistry laboratory. Results were compared with Cefas (2003) Action Levels and OSPAR ERL and ERM levels set by the Clean Seas Environment Monitoring Programme (CSEMP).
