The survey covered all turbine foundations using a corridor 370 metre wide along the array cables connecting the turbines. To meet this objective EGS conducted a multibeam high frequency bathymetric survey combined with seabed mapping and sub-surface hazard identification using side-scan sonar (SSS) in conjunction with a USBL system, across each of the constructed WTG and substation location over the Barrow Offshore Windfarm. Survey operations over the site were completed with the EGS Pioneer on a 24 hour operational basis between 17th and 18th May 2012. Full MBES calibrations were carried out prior to previous DONG contract, Borkum Riffgrund West 01 Clearance Survey that took place in February 2012. MBES and SSS verifications and USBL calibrations were carried out in the Irish Sea, UK on the 3rd May 2012, prior to commence survey operations for DONG at the Walney Offshore Windfarm 1 & 2. During survey operations the vessel was based out of Barrow-in-Furness, UK. The main equipment spread consisted of a Kongsberg EM3002 MBES and Klein 3900 dual frequency SSS. C&C Technologies C-Nav DGPSs were used for horizontal positioning, in combination with a Kongsberg HiPAP 351P USBL system for the SSS tow fish (interfaced into the QPS QINSy navigation package). Vertical level, for reasons of comparability, is LAT VORF; levels were derived by post processing raw GPS data acquired by the Leica 1200 and the C&C Technologies C-Nav units.
