The data was collected using radar, AIS and visual observations. A further 5 days of survey data was collected between 22-27 July 2005, as recommended in the report A1312-np-TS-2. This was scheduled to cover a summer period overlapping with a weekend in July to capture recreational vessel activity at or near its peak. The radar was manned between approximately 0600 and 2200, with all targets acquired manually. During the manned period a visual lookout was maintained during daylight hours and observations were summarised in the logbook. Between 2200 and 0600 (approximately) radar targets were acquired automatically by defining an automatic acquisition zone covering the project area and immediate surroundings. The AIS system tracked targets 24 hours per day during the entire survey period. For the majority of time the radar display range scale was set to 24nm which facilitated the tracking of all targets in the vicinity of the project area. The radar range varied based on conditions and target details but typically vessels were tracked up to 20nm from the survey location and some targets up to 32nm. The AIS system automatically tracked all targets within range, which again varied depending on conditions, but was typically 24nm to 36nm and in some cases beyond 100nm.
