All turbines were fully operational by March 2009. The Food and Environmental Protection Act (FEPA) 1985 Licences for the LID projects specified three main objectives in relation to ornithological monitoring: 1. Assess changes in usage of area by feeding birds and birds on passage; 2. Assess collision risk prior to construction of the wind farms and investigate techniques/methodologies for collecting data on actual collisions during and post construction; and 3. Survey benthos to inform reasons for possible changes in bird distribution and density on site. Boat-based bird surveys were undertaken between 2007 and 2012 to fulfil the objective 1 monitoring requirements during the construction and post-construction periods. The reports and datasets provided within this series cover these surveys. One survey was also conducted using the smaller Sirocco (14.5 m). The survey schedule is provided in Appendix 1 with the survey summary sheets for 2010 provided in Appendix 2. As specified in license conditions, one survey was generally conducted per month except in January/February and November/December when one survey was required over each of these two-month periods, and during both September and October over the main autumn migration period when the target was three surveys per month.
