Conducted by the University of Wales, Bangor, the project surveyed the area over a complete annual cycle from December 2003 to November 2004, plus acoustic monitoring until March 2005. The surveys were primarily for cetaceans although pinnipeds (Seals) were also looked at. The species sighted and detected during the surveys were the grey seal, the harbour porpoise, and the bottlenose dolphin. Grey seals and harbour porpoise were the primary species present; bottlenose dolphin were sighted or detected infrequently.
