All turbines were fully operational by March 2009. The Food and Environmental Protection Act (FEPA) 1985 Licences for the LID projects specified three main objectives in relation to ornithological monitoring: 1. Assess changes in usage of area by feeding birds and birds on passage; 2. Assess collision risk prior to construction of the wind farms and investigate techniques/methodologies for collecting data on actual collisions during and post construction; and 3. Survey benthos to inform reasons for possible changes in bird distribution and density on site. Boat-based bird surveys were undertaken between 2007 and 2012 to fulfil the objective 1 monitoring requirements during the construction and post-construction periods.
