The surveyed areas were located 22-30 km north-northwest of Walney Island, UK. Survey operations were carried out in three distinct locations; Block 1 and two separate cable routes String 2 and String 3. The survey was a Part 1 Consent and Environmental survey, data gathered for which is anticipated to lead to consent for grab sampling at the proposed sites. EGS conducted a high-frequency Multibeam Echo Sounder (MBES) bathymetric survey, combined with side-scan sonar (SSS), magnetometer and seismic sub-bottom systems. A pole-mounted Kongsberg HiPAP 351P/5 USBL was used for accurate sub-surface positioning of the towed instruments. C&C Technologies C-Nav 2050 DGPS was used for horizontal positioning, in combination with a Kongsberg HiPAP 351P USBL system for the SSS tow fish (interfaced into the QPS QINSy navigation package). Vertical level was LAT (VORF LAT Geoid model), levels were derived by post processing raw GPS data acquired by the Leica 1200 and the C&C Technologies C-Nav units. A 500-metre wide corridor at the String 2 and String 3 cable route sites were surveyed at 50 metre line spacing to obtain 100% survey coverage; Block 1 was surveyed at a 50 metre line spacing to obtain 100% coverage of the area.
