The objective of the investigation was to determine the ground conditions at the site and to provide information that would assist the Client in the geological and geotechnical appraisal of the site for the purposes of designing a potential Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) route. Subsequently the Client also requested the assessment of the ground conditions for a potential shallow trenched/trenchless installation approach for the cable. The scope of the investigation was determined by the Client in conjunction with Fugro. The position of the exploratory hole locations are broadly aligned with the proposed cable route as seen in Figure SP1 in Appendix E. The investigation will provide detailed information on ground conditions beneath the site and in the area surrounding the proposed cable route should this need to change. The investigation will provide geotechnical parameters to allow the design of suitable HDD routes and selection of HDD techniques should this approach be deemed suitable. Subsequently the Client requested that the focus of the investigation and report was to include detailed assessment of shallow soils should a shallow trenched or trenchless installation approach be considered.
