Two export cables will connect the wind farm to the grid, with landfall to the east of the mouth of the River Nene. The region has been historically subjected to a legacy of military activity that is likely to have resulted in unexploded ordnance (UXO) contamination. On behalf of Centrica Energy, Emu Limited and Osiris Projects conducted geophysical surveys along the Lincs Export Cable Route. The purpose of the surveys was to identify the presence of any debris or obstructions along the route. Moreover to obtaining suitable morphology and geological information on seabed bathymetry, seabed features and sub-seabed conditions. There was no consideration to plan for a full UXO survey at the time and the subsequent data processing did not consider this issue. RPS Explosives Engineering Services (EES) have now been commissioned to review 26 geophysical contacts / sites that have been highlighted by Wessex Archaeology to determine whether an UXO assessment can be undertaken.
