It included the following elements: • Grab sampling for one faunal sample at 53 pre-determined sites using a Hamon grab, as shown in Figure 3.1 and 3.2 below; • Retention of benthic fauna on 1.0mm sieves, followed by preservation in formaldehyde solution; • Sampling of the sediment for particle size analysis (PSA) and organic content (through loss on ignition) at each faunal grab sampling site; • Sampling of the sediment for contaminants through chemical analysis at eight pre-determined sites; • Drop-down video camera sampling at five pre-determined sites using a Kongsberg camera system, plus sampling at any sites where Sabellaria spinulosa was found in the grab samples; and • Appropriate analysis of benthic fauna and processing of the samples. Of the 53 grab sites and five Drop Camera stations, all were sampled during the characterisation survey. The grab sites located within the wind farm area were W1 to W40. The grab sites located along the export cable route were CR1 to CR12. The drop Camera sites located within the wind farm area were D-A to D-E. In addition to the original five drop camera stations in the wind farm site, target sites were chosen along the export cable route T7 to T10, based on initial interpretation of sidescan sonar survey data.
