Maritime Archaeology Ltd undertook the assessment consisting of a review of the existing historic environment baseline, including both primary and secondary sources, upon which subsequent impact assessments and mitigation proposals can be determined. The review is complemented by an assessment of existing marine geophysical survey data collected by EMU Ltd on behalf of Dong Energy. The defined study area for the desk based assessment covered both the marine and intertidal zones. A review of the baseline archaeological data for both the terrestrial and maritime areas was undertaken and a diverse range of sources including national, regional and local bodies and organisations were consulted. Geophysical survey data was collected and processed for the study area by EMU Ltd. Analysis of the data for archaeological interpretation was undertaken by MA Ltd using Sonarwiz.Map and ArcGIS software. Side scan and multibeam surveys were undertaken within the geophysical survey area and covered the proposed wind turbine area as well as the northern cable route. The project determines the potential impact of the development on the archaeological characteristics of the area as well as mitigation in response to the impacts identified. A Written Scheme of Investigation (WSI) or Archaeological Protocol has been proposed to outline the requirements and scope of the archaeological mitigation recommended in this marine archaeological assessment.
