The site is located between approximately 21 km to 45 km west of the Isle of Walney and the west coast of Cumbria in the Irish Sea. The Walney Extension windfarm site is adjacent to the Walney Phase 1 and Phase 2 windfarm sites to the north and the north-east. The ground investigation was carried out from 13 October 2012 to the 12 January 2013 on the geotechnical drill ship Fugro Commander and the jack-up barge the Excalibur. All water depths were reduced to metres below Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT). Tidal heights were derived from GNSS elevation data using Fugro’s MSS tides program and the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) Vertical Offshore Reference Frame (VORF*) ellipsoidal separation LAT surface. A file of predicted tidal heights relative to LAT was also loaded in Starfix.Tide to allow a running comparison.
