This included Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), Sea trout (Salmo trutta), Allis shad (Alosa alosa), Twaite shad (Alosa fallax), Sparling (Osmerus eperlanus), Sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus), River lamprey (Lampetra fluviatilis) and European Eel (Anguilla anguilla). Many of these species are important for economic reasons and most have particular high conservation value and are protected by both Scottish and European Law. It was agreed by the RRMG that the Marine Environmental Monitoring Plan would include detailed monitoring which would be required at three distinct stages: preconstruction (2004), construction (estimated 2005) and post-construction (estimated 2006-onwards). The baseline preconstruction surveys were completed in 2004 and 2006. Due to a delay in the construction, construction monitoring did not begin until2007. It was agreed by the FWG that the Solway European eel population could not be monitored effectively and thus they are not examined in this report. This report details the agreed construction monitoring surveys completed in 2008 to meet the requirements of the monitoring plan.
