On days when pile-driving occurred, mitigation surveys were carried out prior to and during pile-driving. The MMO platform was located on the wheelhouse roof with an eye height of approximately 5.5 m. However, when sea swell caused the boat to roll, observations were carried out from inside the wheelhouse. The sea was scanned with the naked eye and binoculars, and special care was taken to survey a 500 m radius around the Buzzard to ensure, as far as possible, that no marine mammals were visible within this area.
