The survey was undertaken in June 2014 and involved single and triplicate grab sampling at 53 stations resulting in the collection of 119 sediment samples that were subject to faunal, PSD and TOC analysis. The resulting data underwent univariate and multivariate analysis to establish the nature of the sediments and associated macrobenthic communities distributed across the KFE area, the cable route corridor and tidal excursion. The survey design was based on a stratified random approach with sampling stations targeted within each of the three previously defined biotope types in the vicinity of the development area and export cable route, with a preference towards those sites sampled for benthic faunal analysis in previous surveys (IECS, 2011) (Figure 2). As specified in the Scope of Works, benthic grabbing included a mix of single and triplicate sampling at a total of 53 stations located across the KFE development area, export cable route, areas of secondary and tertiary impact (areas within the tidal excursion) and reference areas. Of the 53 stations, 13 represented stations sampled during the characterisation survey (IECS, 2011) to allow for comparison. Single samples were taken at 20 stations whilst triplicate sampling was undertaken at 33 stations.
