The operations involved monitoring changes to seabed morphology around the turbines and substations as well as along the inter array cable and export cable routes. EGSi carried out the survey using a high frequency multibeam (MBES) system and a side-scan sonar (SSS) in conjunction with a USBL system, across each of the proposed WTGs, substation locations and export cable routes over the Walney Offshore Windfarm 1 & 2 sites. A Seatex SeaPath 330+ was used as the primary positioning system. Vertical levels were reduced to LAT. Levels were derived by post processing raw GPS data acquired by the Leica 1200 GPS and the C&C Technologies C-Nav units using GPS reference station data from the Ordnance Survey (OS) Blackpool Active Station. The UKHO VORF model, providing separation values between the ETRS89 ellipsoid and LAT, was used to reduce GPS heights to LAT. At the time of survey operations it was not possible to receive RTK corrections from the DONG marine communication tower base station. A Sonardyne Scout Plus USBL system was used to position the SSS tow fish which was interfaced into the QPS QINSy navigation package. In order to acquire sufficient coverage of the turbine and cable locations, survey lines were run at a distance of 40m offset either side of the turbine rows, array cables and export cables. A total of 554.453 km of survey lines were run over the WOW 1 & 2 sites.
