The objectives of the survey were to collect Geophysical and Bathymetric data around the area where the cable had been laid outside of the original survey limits, checking for depth of burial or any cable exposure. The survey would be undertaken with Single Beam Bathymetry, Swathe Bathymetry, Side Scan Sonar (SSS), Sub Bottom Profiler and Magnetometer. Interfaced to this system were the primary and secondary positioning systems, heading sensor, single beam echosounder, sidescan sonar, magnetometer, boomer and multibeam echosounder systems (as illustrated in Figure 4.1). Real time navigation and single beam bathymetric data were output to a surveyor’s/helmsman’s visual display unit (VDU). A typical data acquisition cycle comprised of; sampling data from the primary and secondary positioning systems (SPS751 and VS110), single beam echosounder and heading sensor. Heading and navigation data was output to annotate and mark analogue and digital records on the single beam echo sounder, magnetometer, sidescan sonar, boomer and multibeam echo sounder systems (Table 4.1). During calibration of survey equipment systems, fixes were logged at twenty-second intervals and position logged every 5 metres along the ground. See section 4 of the report for more information.
