The survey was carried out between 13th November 2012 and 2nd April 2013 by MV Freja, with surveys for contract variations completed during the period 30th April to 3rd May 2013. However, due to a period of sustained bad weather and breakdown of Freja’s engine, SV Bibby Tethra also worked on this project between 19th February and 2nd April 2013.The survey will be repeated in the summer of 2013, as part of the monitoring program on the Humber Gateway site. The main objectives of the survey were as follows: -To compare in a disciplined and quantified manner the results of each of the periodic surveys - To provide an accurate bathymetric chart of the survey area and cable corridor region - To chart evidence of scour around the Met-mast -To chart Annex1 habitats particularly “Cobble Reefs” and Sabellaria reefs, both defined by Natural England’s report “Best methods for identifying and evaluating Sabellaria spinulosa and cobble reef”: - To chart natural seabed features including mobile sediments/sand based, and any obstructions, man-made objects, debris or wrecks. - To chart jack-up leg hole positions and scour associated with them. - To produce isopachyte charts to show sediment thickness of the upper 2m of seabed including, loose, and any mobile material, and of any other significant reflector - To produce a comprehensive factual report describing methods and events within the survey. - Correlate magnetic anomalies and sonar contacts to identify items that require may require further physical Survey for example UXO, wrecks, and man-made objects. - During survey period, identify items/areas of “Specific Areas of Interest & Archaeology” and inform the Employer as required. This series contains Reports, Bathymetry and Mosaic datasets as well as a report regarding the status of the disused Amethyst Pipeline. This series reports cover the export cable and the wind farm area, however only data for the Export Cable is available. Four survey lines were run at 5m spacing to achieve the required overlap, with additional multibeam-only infill lines collected in the shallows. Eight cross lines were run, with a spacing of 1000m. Secondly, the development site required complete coverage, with 141 lines run at 60m spacing, oriented NW-SE across the site and cross lines every 1500m. Vessel positioning was provided using a C-NAV 3050 dGPS system, with primary heading and motion coming from an Applanix POS MV 320 INS. Water depths in the area ranged from 0m at the western end of the export cable route to approximately 17m in the deepest sections of the main site. The vessel was mobilised in Grimsby, which was approximately 1 hour 15 minutes transit from site. Due to entry restrictions in Grimsby during certain stages of the tide, the day-to-day working hours were flexible to maximise the daylight working hours on any particular day. This meant that different sections of the survey were completed when tidal and weather conditions allowed. The shallowest end of the export cable route was covered at the first high tide in daylight after spring tides, to maximise the depth of water. Traffic in the River Humber was very heavy, and subsequently transit speeds and routes had to be occasionally altered to accommodate shipping; however, very little traffic was observed on the site itself. There is a met mast within the main site, around which a scour survey was carried out. This was an obstruction for running other regular survey lines; however, close pass procedures were followed to ensure good data coverage, with minimal risk and disruption to the survey. Osiris Projects have conducted prior surveys on this site, and subsequently the knowledge of the area is very good. This allowed for smoother operations, as the survey team were aware of any obstructions or difficulties that may have had an effect on data quality or progress. Data acquisition was mainly undertaken from Osiris Projects’ own dedicated shallow draft vessel MV Freja, equipped with multibeam bathymetry, side scan sonar, subbottom profiler and magnetometer systems. For the survey of the export route, all systems were run simultaneously, apart from in the shallowest sections, when multibeam-only data was collected in areas too shallow to tow a side scan sonar fish. Across the main site, all but the sub-bottom profiling systems were run simultaneously. Osiris Projects’ own specialist survey vessel SV Bibby Tethra was utilised for a section of the works between 19th February 2013 and 2nd April 2013.The vessel was equipped with the same survey spread as MV Freja and focused on the main survey area, completing 280km of data collection.
