An additional 21-day AIS survey was performed in 2006 and a further 14-day AIS survey in 2007 to update the information on the commercial shipping in the area. AIS tracking covers the vast majority of ships above 300 gross tonnes. The use of AIS, which has limitations for smaller vessels, was supplemented with extensive local consultation to ensure a true representation of the smaller craft was given.
