Metadata: 2024 Marine Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment programme (mNCEA) St Kilda survey: Acoustic data
Abstract:
The Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC), in collaboration with the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI), conducted an offshore seabed survey on the Scottish Continental Shelf (OSPAR Region III - Celtic Seas) in September / October 2024, under the marine Natural Capital and Ecosystems Assessment (mNCEA) programme. Approximately 45 km2 of multibeam bathymetry and backscatter was acquired from a previously un-surveyed area of Stanton Banks MCZ using a Kongsberg EM2040 Multibeam Echosounder. This data has not been fully processed yet but will be made available via the data archive centres once finalised.
Data holder:

| Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 11550 |
| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2024 Marine Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment programme (mNCEA) St Kilda survey: Acoustic data |
| Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | COR0924 |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | bd8723a0-4deb-4a95-9424-043ad8291ade |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | COR0924 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2024-09-27 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2024-10-11 |
| Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | unknown |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Bathymetry and backscatter data was acquired using KM Seafloor Information Systems Version 5.12.3 software. The details of the multibeam settings used during COR0924 are as follows: Frequency - 300kHz Beam Angle - 0.7° Tx by 0.7° RX Ping Rate - Max ping rate 50Hz Beam Spacing Mode - Ultra High Density Beam Spacing Angular Coverage - 65° Port and Starboard Vessel Speed - 6 Knots Positioning was achieved using a Seapath 380 r Dual frequency Differential Global Navigation Satellite System (DGNSS) Real-time kinematic (RTK) and a Seatex Motion Gyro Compass (MGC). Sound velocity profiles (SVP) were collected approximately at the start of the multibeam survey then every 5 lines during the multibeam survey using a Valeport Swift SVP. |
