Metadata: 1996 Plymouth City Council Jennycliff and Batten Bay intertidal marine wildlife survey
Abstract:
The study area was identified by English Nature as an area important for its marine wildlife (Sensitive Marine Area) and a Special Area of Conservation (pSAC). Several of the habitats and their associated communities identified during this study are rarely recorded and may represent the best examples of their type within Britain. The dataset in the report contains MNCR biotope data of the Jennycliff and Batten bay area. All biotope recordings were made using the criteria outlined by Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC). It is concluded that continued coastal development and increased recreational use of the study area will likely result in degradation of these important marine wildlife features.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | All methodology used during the field work conducted for this study was similar to that developed by the JNCC for the Marine Nature Conservation Review (MNCR). (Hiscock, 1990). At each site the main features of physical, biological and conservation interest were established. The physical and biological characteristics of key habitats and/or biological subzones were noted. The abundances of conspicuous species were estimated using abundance scales developed for the MNCR. All survey data including field records, reviews literature and photographic details are kept as original copies and held on the Devon Wildlife Trust copy of the MNCR marine database. Additional information from previous surveys of a similar nature was incorporated into this report. This data has been reviewed against the DASSH Quality Assessment Criteria (http://doi.org/10.17031/64ccec5c7ba72) and been categorised as medium/low quality. |
