Metadata: DAERA annual winter nutrient survey (2007 - present)
Abstract:
The winter nutrient programme is an ongoing annual survey assessing nutrient levels in marine water systems. Data gathered is based on laboratory analysis of spot water samples taken during the winter period (Nov-Feb). The frequencies are determined by the directives, Water Framework Directive (WFD), Nitrates Directive, Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD) and Programme for Government (PFG). Samples from Clean Seas Evidence Group (CSEG) are submitted to Marine Environment Monitoring and Assessment National database (MERMAN) annually. The data held in MERMAN fulfils the UK's mandatory monitoring requirements under the Oslo and Paris Convention (OSPAR), Joint Assessments and Monitoring Programme (JAMP). The annual winter nutrient survey is a sub-project with the DAERA Water Framework Directive Combined Water Sampling Project (MMYY-10). Other related surveys within this project include the monitoring of WFD Annex VIII and X pollutants, and Clean Seas Evidence Group (CSEG) monitoring at fixed stations within 6 transitional and coastal water bodies. Separate discovery meta-data for these surveys is also available on the MEDIN portal.

| Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 2964 |
| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | DAERA annual winter nutrient survey (2007 - present) |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | c7ab5ac60a8471479f43c56b525b3e34 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | DAERA-WN |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2007-01-01 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2018-05-03 |
| Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | annually |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The Water Quality team send the collected samples to Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) Water Management Unit (WMU) accredited laboratories where they are analysed. Data is checked to ensure it is within range for the time of year and location and there were no outliers. For Clean Seas Evidence Group (CSEG) samples, a weighting is calculated, based on the quality of the analysis. The weighting score incorporates the laboratory accreditation, reference material, inter-laboratory comparisons, detection limits, uncertainties and standard deviations. Once the AQC, PT and sample submissions are complete the MERMAN Management Team curate and check the data submissions investigating any noticeable errors, which are corrected by DAERA. |
