Metadata: 1989 Nature Conservancy Council (NCC) South Cumbria, Littoral Survey
Abstract:
This report was produced as part of the Marine Nature Conservation Review (MNCR) and presents data from 37 site surveys along the South Cumbrian coast (Barrow-in-Furness to St Bees Head). The sites visited included both rocky and sediment shores. The report includes site descriptions and locations, community/site type descriptions with abundances of characteristic species and a complete list of taxa recorded during the survey.

| Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 3037 |
| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 1989 Nature Conservancy Council (NCC) South Cumbria, Littoral Survey |
| Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | Littoral survey of South Cumbria (Barrow in Furness to St Bees Head), 1989 MNCR Cumbria littoral survey |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | cc6680bc9e3604fb486b8cb9bcabcabc |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | NATENG000024 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1989-04-04 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1989-04-08 |
| Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |
| Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. |
| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | This report was produced as part of the Marine Nature Conservation Review (MNCR). The report contains the results of field surveys (conducted during early April 1989) and the comparison of this data with that of previous studies. The study surveyed 27 sites, both rocky and sedimentary, and followed the MNCR survey methods. These methods do not follow a transect approach but aims to identify the range of habitats present and the number / abundance of conspicuous species within these habitats. In addition, core samples were taken at sedimentary shores for granulometric analysis. The results presented include the granulometric analysis, description of the distinct community/site types and their characterising species abundances and finally a complete list of taxa recorded. The discussion describes the habitat/community types distributions and suggests recommendations for future work. Finally, the scientific interest and importance of the area is evaluated, including species diversity. |
