Metadata: FISP Filling the Gap 2022-2024 WP4 Crab Observer Data
Abstract:
Brown crab shell hardness data was collected by researchers onboard commercial crustacean potting vessels within the Devon and Severn IFCA district. Core measurements taken include: string number, number of pots per string, the abundance and size of each crab caught in the string, the sex of each animal, durometer scores, fisher classification of hardness, moult stage assessment, GPS location of string and whether the animal was landed or discarded, pot type information (inkwell or parlour), soak time, condition index and damage. Trips were sporadic and dependent on weather and fisher availability. Trips occurred over May - August 2024. This work package was to trial and develop a credible methodology for assessing the softness of a brown crab shell using durometer measurements.
Data holder:
Bangor University School of Ocean Sciences
Use constraints:
Not publicly available because this dataset contains commerically sensitive information e.g., volume of catch and fishing locations. Therefore cannot be shared wider than the Bangor University Fisheries Team, due to data sharing agreements with fishers.

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | FISP Filling the Gap 2022-2024 WP4 Crab Observer Data |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | ff0bbc2e2c85179be8c0c7aa0ee995f9 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | FISP_Filling_the_gap_WP4_Crab_observer_data |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2024-05-17 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2024-08-30 |
| Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |
