Metadata: 2008, GEO, Lincs, Geotechnical Investigations
Abstract:
The Lincs Offshore Wind Farm is located approximately 8km off the coast of Lincolnshire, north-east of Skegness and is planned to consist of 69 wind turbines and 1 substation. GEO (Danish Geothechnical Institute) conducted geotechnical site investigations in terms of seabed deployed Piezocone Penetration Testing (PCP) and geotechnical borings for the planned offshore wind farm at Lincs. The boring campaign included in total 45 boreholes to between 40 and 50 metres below seabed. The boreholes were carried out as a combination of rotary, percussion and core drilling. In addition to the sampling, in-situ testing (SCP, PCPT, P-S logging and HPD tests) were carried out in the boreholes. The CPT campaign includes in total 82 PCPT tests. All the PCPT's were planned to penetrate to 25m below seabed. On the majority of the test locations this target depth was not reached due to soil conditions.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | On the instruction and under the supervision of RPS Energy, acting on behalf of Centrica Renewable Energy Limited a geotechnical investigation has been carried out by GEO (Danish Geotechnical Institute) at the location for the planned offshore wind farm at Lincs. Co-ordinates for all positions are given according to WGS84, UTM Zone 31, 3o East. All depths refer to the Chart Datum (CD). Two independent DGPS systems have provided surface positioning during the boring campaign. The preliminary positioning system was a Hemisphere MBX-4 (EGNOS) receiver. The secondary positioning systems was an Ashtech GPS 1 DGPS (IALA) receiver. Both systems are described in Report 2. When the platform was jacked up, the actual position was fixed and a “Final Positioning Report” was prepared in Navipac for each test location. The seabed elevation for the boring positions shown on the boring profiles have been based on the bathymetric survey previously performed by the Client. Key results from this survey are presented on the Centrica drawing 01515D6984-03. The water depths are relative to CD. In additions the depths to seabed have been monitored during the initial part of the drilling work to check the bathymetric data. Results from these control measurements are presented in Report 2. Positions and seabed elevations for the boreholes are given in the Summary – Boreholes, Enclosure 3B.02 and on the Borehole Logs, Enclosure Nos. 3D.LS01 through 3D.LSSUB. |
