Metadata: 2006-2012, Plymouth Marine Laboratory, The UK continental shelf, Distribution and variability of internal waves from Earth Observation Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data
Abstract:
This dataset of internal waves for the UK continental shelf (2006-2012) has been produced as part of Fronts for marine Wildlife Assessment for Renewable Developments project funded by the Crown Estate. It contains monthly and monthly climatology maps of internal waves (IW) density distribution within the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) region. It also includes seasonal, 6-month and annual variability maps of internal waves. The maps were generated by automatic processing of the ENVISAT Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (ASAR) data archive over the period from Oct. 2006 to Apr. 2012 that included over 3,400 ASAR images covering the area of interest.

| Other details | ||
| Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 4379 |
| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2006-2012, Plymouth Marine Laboratory, The UK continental shelf, Distribution and variability of internal waves from Earth Observation Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 16b067acd995fcb08758f27e56b44e3d |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | 206 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2006-10-01 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2012-04-30 |
| Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |
| Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | This dataset of internal waves for the UK continental shelf (2006-2012) has been produced as part of Fronts for marine Wildlife Assessment for Renewable Developments project funded by the Crown Estate. | Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The maps were stored in netCDF4 CF1.4 file format and in the Portable Network Graphic (PNG) image file format. The netCDF4 files can be found in â??gisâ? directory. The composite maps are stored in â??monthlyâ? subdirectory and climatology maps are located in â??climmonthlyâ? subdirectory. Variability maps are located in â??varseasonalâ?, â??var6monthâ? and â??varyearlyâ? subdirectories. The directory â??plotsâ? contains annotated views of internal wave maps in PNG format. PNG maps of IW climatology follow the name pattern â??climmapINTERVALoccurence TYPE.pngâ?, where INTERVAL is the time interval in months or years, TYPE is â??stretch003â? for the map dynamic range stretched from 0 to 0.003. TYPE is â??stretch003bathâ? for the stretched maps and overlaid bathymetry. The bathymetry equal depth lines are colour-coded as: cyan â?? 25 meter depth, orange â?? 50 meters, white â?? 100 meters, yellow â?? 150 meters, then these colours repeat for the depths 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 meters. Monthly density maps follow the pattern â??iwmapINTERVALoccurrenceTYPE.pngâ?. Variability maps use the pattern â??varmapINTERVALvariabilityTYPE.pngâ?. |
