Metadata: 2006-2008, Metoc, Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm, Metocean Criteria for Engineering Design and Construction Planning
Abstract:
Metoc prepared this report for StatoilHydro to assist with development of the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm, in the southern North Sea off the North Norfolk coast of the UK. It provides metocean criteria for engineering design and installation planning throughout the wind farm area, whose boundaries describe a diamond shape near the national 12-mile limit (see Figure 1.1). The work has been conducted under the terms of StatoilHydro contract No 4501514355. This report supersedes Metoc Report 1483 (July 2006, commissioned by Scira Offshore Energy and Norsk Hydro) and addresses verification comments received from DnV and StatoilHydro in March 2008. These metocean criteria are to be used in detail design of the wind turbine structures and other structures to be built on site and also in the installation planning for these structures and in-field cabling. They do not address the export cable route between that area and the shore. For wind and waves, we have produced a set of criteria that applies universally across the wind farm area. For current and water level (including wave crest elevation), there is some spatial variability across the wind farm. Peak current speeds increase by around 10-15% between the northwest and the southeast corners of the wind farm. Similarly, water levels increase by up to 5% from the eastern to the western boundary and design wave crest elevation varies with site depth. The metocean criteria may only be used in connection with this project by StatoilHydro, its partners and subcontractors. This reflects the confidentiality restrictions on NEXTRA source data.
