Metadata: 2010, Osiris, Zone 1 - Moray Firth, Geophysical Survey
Abstract:
Osiris Projects were commissioned in May 2010 by Senergy Survey and Geoengineering, on behalf of their clients, EDP Renewables and SeaEnergy Renewables, to carry out a geophysical site survey at the proposed Moray offshore wind farm in the Moray Firth. Unless stated otherwise, all co-ordinates quoted in this report are referenced to the WGS84 Datum. Grid co-ordinates are on the UTM Projection, Zone 30N, Central Meridian 3°W. The survey was carried out between 22nd May 2010 and 25th September 2010. The main objectives of the survey were to assess detailed bathymetry, seabed features and sub-bottom conditions for input to turbine foundation planning across the site. The survey was carried out in three parts; the first part included acquisition of bathymetry, side scan sonar and sub-bottom profiler data for a coarse and detail grid on the Phase 1 area; the second part acquired 2D high resolution seismic data across the Phase 1 and Phase 2 areas; the third part included an analogue survey over a coarse grid on the Phase 2 area. This volume (Volume 1: Operations Report) details the operational parameters, locations, times and techniques utilised during the surveys. Volume 2 (volumes 2a to 2i) contains the results and interpretation of the survey data.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The survey vessel SV Chartwell was mobilised in Wick, Caithness on the 22nd and 23rd May 2010 and operated from Wick for the duration of the survey works. Wick harbour is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes transit from the site. For the first part analogue work, SV Chartwell was equipped with multibeam and single beam echo sounders, side scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler and magnetometer systems. All sensors were run simultaneously during the first phase of survey operations. Primary positioning was provided by the use of an Applanix PosMV, with RTCM differential corrections. The tide gauge was deployed at 21:40 hrs on the 26th May at position 505251mE, 6449803mN (UTM Zone 30N 3° West, WGS 84), approximately 200m from the site boundary in 40m below LAT water depth. Calibrations were completed and survey operations commenced on the 23rd May 2010. The tide gauge was recovered on the 5th July to replace battery cells, with its data downloaded on site, before the tide gauge was redeployed in the same location. The tide gauge was recovered once more on the 26th July upon completion of detailed analogue scope of work. The first phase analogue work was completed on the 26th July 2010. UHR equipment was mobilised to site on the 27th July, with second phase UHR digital seismic work commenced on the 29th July 2010 and completed on the 1st September 2010. The third part coarse grid analogue works over the Phase 2 area commenced on the 2nd September. The tide gauge was redeployed at 17:30 hrs on the 2nd September at position 505093mE, 6449884mN (UTM Zone 30N 3° West, WGS 84), approximately 395m from the MORL site boundary in 40m below LAT water depth. Calibrations were undertaken and survey operations commenced on the 3rd September 2010. All survey operations were completed by the 25th September 2010 and the vessel and equipment demobilised. |
