Metadata: 2012, Wessex Archaeology, Lynn and Inner Dowsing, Archaeological Protocol
Abstract:
The Archaeological Protocol for the Lynn and Inner Dowsing (LID) offshore wind farm projects has been in place since 2006 (Wessex Archaeology, 2006). Construction of the LID projects was completed in 2008 and the wind farms have been operational since early 2009, therefore this document updates the existing Archaeological Protocol to focus on the operations and maintenance (O&M) phase. This Archaeological Protocol will remain in place for the lifetime of the wind farms and also covers decommissioning activities. The LID projects are located approximately five kilometres off the coast of Skegness, Lincolnshire, and consist of 27 turbines at Lynn, 27 turbines at Inner Dowsing, with associated inter-array cables and six export cables to shore. The LID FEPA Licences (Licence 31792/10/1; Inner Dowsing Licence 31814/10/2) require a protocol to be submitted to the Licencing Authority that details action to be taken to protect any archaeological remains identified in the Environmental Statements or which may be discovered during the project. This document updates the Archaeological Protocol currently in place to tailor the requirements to the O&M phase and decommissioning activities.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Geophysical data acquired over the Lynn and Inner Dowsing Offshore Wind Farms were assessed by Wessex Archaeology over an area centred on the recorded location of the wreck of a landing craft (referred to as 2072 in previous reports). This location lies between two turbines (ID28 and ID29) near the southeastern corner of the Inner Dowsing Wind Farm (Figure 1). Both sidescan sonar and multibeam bathymetry data acquired in July 2010 were processed and interpreted. No evidence of a wreck was seen but a total of 12 sites of potential archaeological interest were interpreted. Details of all sites are contained within this document. All previous exclusion zones in the study area are recommended to be removed and no new exclusion zones are proposed. The exclusion zones in the remainder of the wind farm and the cable routes should be retained as they have not been further investigated during this review. |
