Abstract:
Marine Ecological Surveys Limited (MESL) was commissioned by Xodus Group Limited, on behalf of Tidal Ventures Limited (TVL), to conduct a benthic survey, of the Torr Head Tidal Energy Array Agreement for Lease (AfL) area and proposed cable route options. The primary objectives of this study were to characterise the benthic environment, in addition to identifying the occurrence of any habitats or species of conservation concern. This report aims to inform the benthic ecology chapter within the Environmental Statement (ES) that is being produced for the development.

The survey was undertaken on the survey vessel M.V Lodesman, operated by Roving Eye Enterprises. The Crown Estate (TCE) small works consent and the Department of Environment, Northern Ireland (DoENI) exempt activities permissions were obtained prior to the commencement of survey operations. Furthermore, the Terms of Reference (MESL, 2014) for the proposed environmental survey works were submitted to DoE Marine Division in June 2014. |
