Metadata: 2002, Wessex Archaeology, Kentish Flats, Maritime and Coastal Archaeological Assessment
Abstract:
A variety of topographic, sea level, archaeological and geophysical survey data has been used to assess the known and potential archaeological resource within the development area. Methodologies included desk-based studies, geophysical and geotechnical surveys, digital modeling, archival research, site visits, sonar surveys, and policy reviews, supplemented by fieldwork and consultations with statutory bodies. The studies revealed significant archaeological resources spanning from the Palaeolithic through to the post-medieval era, with key findings encompassing artefacts, wrecks, geophysical anomalies, and evidence of past occupation and environmental change, though site survival is uncertain due to ongoing marine processes. The surveys collectively recommend ongoing monitoring, formalised protocols for discoveries, and integration of archaeological considerations into development planning to ensure appropriate protection and management of the region’s maritime and coastal heritage.

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2002, Wessex Archaeology, Kentish Flats, Maritime and Coastal Archaeological Assessment |
| Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | Maritime and Coastal Archaeological Assessment |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | a69e8f6b-d0f7-4023-a56f-36404fc738d8 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | TCE-774 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2002-07-01 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2002-07-30 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | unknown |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Wessex Archaeology was been commissioned by Emu Environmental Limited to prepare an archaeological desk-based assessment of the potential effects on archaeological remains of a proposed wind farm development on an area of seabed off the North Kent coast, and the associated connection works on land. |
