Metadata: 2010, Renewable Energy Systems Ltd., (RES), Zone 9 Celtic Array, Preliminary Selection of Potential Cable Landing Sites
Abstract:
The proposed Irish Sea Zone development occupies a roughly triangular area extending from approximately 54° 06’ 000” N, 004° 00’ 000” W, south to 53° 34’ 000” N, 004° 00’ 000” W and westwards to 53° 35’ 000” N, 005° 09’ 000” W. The zone thus covers an area of approximately 2200 km2 of which 135 km2 falls inside and 2065 km2 falls outside of territorial waters. It is located in water depths varying between 28m to 78m, the edges of which are approximately 20 km from the Isle of Man to the north, over 60 km from the Lancashire coast to the east and about 15 km from the Anglesey coast to the south. Centrica Energy Renewable Investment Limited (CERI) has requested that Renewable Energy Systems Limited (RES) investigates possible export cable landing locations for the Round 3 Irish Sea Zone at two locations. One is close to Wylfa in Anglesey, whilst the second is close to Stanah, north of Blackpool in Lancashire. These locations have been selected because of National Grid discussions and are currently only indicative locations. The scope of this study is only to consider possible cable landings locations. It does not include cable routing further offshore, nor routing from the Beach Transition Jointing Bay (BTJB) landwards towards the sub stations. Available datasets includes Reports and Maps in pdf and associated GIS data in Shapefile format Corresponding Centrica Document No: R3-D-GC-001-0000-000000-004 Please note this report was intended for CREL internal use only

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | All of the potential cable landfall locations which were considered in this report were selected solely using information that is available in the public domain, particularly involving aerial and satellite imagery. No site visits were made and no contact made with any local authorities or other relevant bodies by the production of this report. Cconsiderations taken into account when selecting possible cable landfall locations are as below: ? Near shore morphological conditions. ? Beach morphological conditions. ? Approximate width of beach area ?Beach accessibility from the sea. ? Vehicular access to site for construction and support operations. ? Space availability of approximately 30m x 20m for a Beach Transition Joint Bay (BTJB) close to the cable landing point. And as this report was undertaken from information in the public domain it was not always possible to assess each of these considerations for all potential sites. |
