Metadata: 2011, University of Plymouth, Zone 1 - Moray Firth, Seabird Tagging Survey
Abstract:
MORL has commissioned seabird tagging and tracking work to collect data on seabirds in order to inform the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Round 3 Zone 1 Offshore Wind Farm development in the Moray Firth. The objectives of the scope of work are: - Identify linkages between specific seabird colonies and the site. - Estimate species-specific/site-specific foraging distances/locations for adult seabirds. - Provide information on the frequency of use of the site by individual adult seabirds for the species and locations selected. provide information on foraging locations by adult seabirds that can be used for habitat association modelling, and - To apply dyes to a larger sample of suitable target species, to allow re-sightings of individuals from ongoing boat-based surveys.ES Section - MORL (2012) ES, Volume 10, Appendix 4.5 C

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Although the team does not have direct experience of assessing the impact of wind-farms on marine birds, they have been involved with other work relating to assessing the potential impacts of marine renewables. Work is currently underway investigating the potential impacts (both positive and negative) of the Wave Hub development in Cornwall, in collaboration with the University of Exeter. As well as on-going tracking work to determine the extent of site use by seabirds, this project involves the collection of detailed boatbased surveys to examine for any potential impacts during and following the construction of Wave Hub. |
