Metadata: 2011, Oceanflow Energy, Sanda Sound, Benthic Survey
Abstract:
The objective of the survey is to obtain a series of digital cameras stills images of the seabed and seabed communities along the proposed line of a cable linking a one quarter scale EVOPOD tidal energy device to a shore terminal and also within the ambit of the device mooring area prior to deployment of the device. The images will be analysed qualitatively and catalogued to provide a basis for comparison with similar images obtained following deployment of the device to assess possible damage to the benthic boundary layer. The survey may conveniently be considered to encompass two components: cable route to shore and EVOPOD device and mooring.

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2011, Oceanflow Energy, Sanda Sound, Benthic Survey |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | c8fde36a-63b8-4a96-87f9-a69bcd14af76 |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | We will be contracting out the work of analysing the video footage and photographic stills to a recognised marine laboratory or consultant marine biologists. Benthic flora and fauna will be identified to ascertain the concentration of species across the mooring area. The same will be done for video footage and stills take along the path of the power and communication cable, with appropriate discretisation of the data according to the water depth and distance from the shore. Particular care will be taken to identify and highlight any rare and/or vulnerable species. A follow-up survey will be perfomed within12 months of device installation to assess the impact on the benthic zone of Evopod and its mooring system. This survey will combine targeted inspection of the regions where the mooring makes contact with the seabed, and will quantitaviely address the change in species-concentration by comparison with the pre-installation records. |
