Metadata: 2013-2015, Arcus, Methil, Fife Energy Park Offshore Demonstration Wind Turbine (FEPODWT) Bird Monitoring
Abstract:
Arcus Consultancy Services Ltd (Arcus) has been commissioned by Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) to carry out ornithological monitoring at the Fife Energy Park Offshore Demonstration Wind Turbine (FEPODWT) (‘the Development’). Bird monitoring and reporting objectives set out in the PEMP include: Pre-construction / construction bird monitoring strategy: Undertake bird flight activity surveys and surveys of birds on the water twice monthly during the construction works to supplement the existing baseline data and assist in quantifying the flux of birds passing through the volume of risk prior to the turbine being in position. Post-construction / operational bird monitoring strategy: To undertake twice monthly bird flight activity surveys during years one, two, three and five of the operational life of the Development, to understand the interactions of birds with the Development. Reporting: Bird monitoring reports will be submitted within 2 months of the completion of the year one (which will include the pre-construction / construction monitoring results), year two, year three and year five operational monitoring periods. The reports will present the results of the monitoring studies and will draw comparisons with the pre-construction data and any previous years’ monitoring data.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | During the VP watch, censuses of perched birds on the shoreline and birds on the water within the survey area (Figure 1) was undertaken at the start of the watch and at 15 minute intervals thereafter |
