Metadata: 2010-2011, CMACS, Gwynt y Mor, Ecological Survey
Abstract:
The Centre for Marine and Coastal Studies Limited, were commissioned by Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm ltd (GyMOWFL), to undertake a fish and electromagnetic field (EMF) survey programme, to form part of the wider baseline benthic ecological surveys for the Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm. One of the key consents for construction and operation of the wind farm is a Licence (10/59/F) issued under the Food and Environmental Protection Act (FEPA) by the Welsh Government (WAG). This licence contains several references to fish monitoring and electromagnetic fields. A sampling programme was developed under consultation and undertaken during September 2010 and May 2011 consisting of trawl and tangle net surveys respectively to provide information on benthic fish in and around the GyM site. A desk study was also included to provide information on expected EMF and potential effects upon electromagnetic sensitive fish.

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2010-2011, CMACS, Gwynt y Mor, Ecological Survey |
| Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | Ecological Survey |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | ea465969-d6f8-4cfa-8561-5044c895344d |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | TCE-598 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2010-09-27 |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | A standard 2m ‘scientific’ beam trawl was used with a 5mm square mesh cod-end and a chain matrix between the beam and foot-rope. The 2m-beam trawls are used as they cause relatively little damage to the seabed and are suitable for use within and around wind farm arrays; the gear provides useful information on epibenthic invertebrates and smaller demersal fish species but is not ideal for surveying the presence of large demersal fish, many of which can avoid capture. Data from trawl hauls is qualitative. Sampling was undertaken in daylight hours only to allow comparability across the site (different species of fish are active/inactive during hours of darkness). The tangle nets used consisted of a number three lead line and a 2.5 float line. The sheet netting was 0.65mm thick, consisted of 12 inch mesh, and was 8.5 meshes deep. Each net was 100 yards long and each fleet of nets was 10 nets long (therefore 1000 yards per fleet). |
