Metadata: Across Wales Drop-Down Video Monitoring 2007 - 2010
Abstract:
The aim of this data capture was to report on the conservation status of the habitats and species within Wales' marine Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and enable reporting of their favourable conservation status as well as to inform site management. Drop-down video surveys of SACs across Wales. Works is carried out by Royal Haskoning under contract to CCW and focuses on Pen Llyn a'r Sarnau SAC and Pembrokeshire Marine SAC. This project also aims to improve design and implementation of the project, harmonise the work in SACs with Water Framework Directive monitoring in overlapping areas and develop and refine Quality Control and Quality Assurance for drop-down video techniques.

| Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Following methodological and equipment trial (Sanderson et al, 2001; Southeran et al, 2004) drop-down video survey methods were employed extensively in Welsh SACs in 2004 and 2005 (Axelsson et al, 2006). The 2004 survey work focused on Cardigan Bay SAC, while the 2005 survey work focused on Pen Llyn a'r Sarnau, Menai Strait and Conwy Bay, Cardigan Bay and Pembrokeshire Marine. This data is a continuation of work completed in 2004-2005. Drop-down video is useful for gathering large volumes of data across wide areas of seabed and often to depths beyond which divers observations can be safely made. Detailed methods and site locations are described in CCW Marine Monitoring Report 24a. This project also aims to improve design and implementation of the project, harmonise the work in SACs with Water Framework Directive monitoring in overlapping areas and develop and refine Quality Control and Quality Assurance for drop-down video techniques. A subset of data was subject to ring testing using NMBAQC procedures. |
| Additional information | This describes relevant references to the data e.g. reports, articles, websites plus other useful information not captured elsewhere. | See metadata NRW_DS87090 for more information about 2004-2005 data. Non-sensitive species data is published and available to download from the NBN Atlas as part of the "NRW Marine data from Natural Resources Wales (NRW) Technical Support (Research & Monitoring) Contracts, Wales" dataset (NRW_DS116350) |
